| Scotty Karate toured 10 hard years after fronting the Plumbobs for the
first half of the 90's before he spent two years away working in the film
industry in New York (he operated a smoke machine for a Britney Spears MTV
video). There he
hunkered down in the studio with Derek Stanton, another Chelsea, MI native
who had begun to make his name in a band called Awesome Color whose album
is now available through Thurston Moore's imprint Ecstatic Peace.
Derek pulled in musicians from around New York to illumine Scotty's
arrangements that touch the melody of Buddy Holly, the pickin' of Lydia
Mendoza with characters out of a Bukowski novel hiding "coke in her
beehive" while his "brother's in a wheelchair.. he studies evil all the
time". Scotty even had his old pal Gregory Stovetop do the record sleeve.
The original pressing of 350 hard copies is nearly sold out but is be
available here in download format. Look for a new Scotch Bonnet album
coming from Derek and Scotty soon.
